Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
The name Craniosacral is made up of the two terms cranium and sacrum. Forming the two poles of the Central Nervous System, they (together with the brain- and spinal membranes) create an unity in which the cerebrospinal fluid rhythmically pulsates. The inherent force within the tidal movement of the cerebrospinal fluid, called the “Breath of Life” in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, initiates various rhythmic impulses within the body that carry an ordering principal for body and mind.
Through the subtle art of touch, the Craniosacral practitioner listens to these subtle rhythms, inviting and encouraging within the client’s system the inherent intelligence and health of the body and its ability to heal and regulate itself. In creating a safe space with appropriate and clear boundaries and establishing and strengthening inner resources, the client’s body-mind is able to express, without becoming overwhelmed, places of tightness and patterns of inertia that hold unresolved experiences of stress or trauma, and thus initiating healing and integration. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a very gentle, non-invasive, yet deep bodywork that is safe for people of any age, from babies to the elderly, as well as during pregnancy.
A session generally lasts between 75 to 90 minutes. With children it might be shorter. The practitioner works with the client lying on a massage table. However, it is also possible to work with the client in a sitting position or even in movement. This pertains particularly when working with children.
